Literacy Courses
World Bank statistics from the last 3 years show that the Roma score very low on their indicators. In Romania , more than 80% of the Roma population live below the poverty line, which is 3.73 euro per day. The participation of the Roma children in education is relatively low. Many adults are unable to either read or write.
Approximately half of the Roma population can neither read nor write (source: FET 25, June 2003). In the Roma community of Tinca, the percentage of people unable to read or write is 65% and in Hetea 75%. This is why ProRroma offers literacy courses. Being able to read and write also means being able to read your Bible and help your children with their homework.
